St. Clair is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania two miles (3 km) north of Pottsville or the southern Coal Region. Extensive deposits of hard coal are present. In the past, the manufacturing interests were the production of miners' squibs and fuses and miners' caps. The Saint Clair Police Department serves approximately 3,200 people.

          History of Saint Clair

• The streets in Saint Clair were laid out in 1831.

• First and Hancock Street was the geographical center.

• Street blocks measured 480 feet in length and 200 feet in depth (approx. 2.2 acres). 

• Each block was divided into six, seven, or eight lots.

• Individual lots were 200 feet deep and from sixty to eighty feet in width.

• Individuals purchasing these 1st lots often sub-divided their lot into as many as 6 lots.
